The five best K-dramas of 2020

2020 has just ended and it's gone, leaving us with positive and negative memories as well as a long list of K-dramas. It is therefore the right time to take stock of the situation: what were the best K-dramas of 2020? We offer you five.

1. Crash Landing On You

One of the first K-dramas that 2020 gave us is Crash Landing On You (original titl). It is a drama that has been very successful both at home and abroad due to the particularity of its plot. In fact, it begins by telling the story of a woman who, paragliding in an area not too far from the border with North Korea, is suddenly overwhelmed by a whirlwind and miraculously wakes up alive and… in North Korea . And it is from here that the whole plot develops, introducing North Korean characters who had never been seen on southern TV.

2. Itaewon Class

Immediately after Crash Landing On You there was Itaewon Class taken from the webtoon of the same name. It tells the story of a boy who has lost everything due to the arrogance of a rich heiress, but who, despite everything, does not give up and fights to the end to achieve his goals. The drama is, in many ways, also a social denunciation towards the hierarchy too deeply rooted in Korean society that concerns the inequalities of treatment between rich and poor and also addresses important issues such as those of transsexuality and, in a softer way, racism. This K-drama has fascinated many because the protagonist never lets himself be discouraged despite the difficulties, even when these seem insurmountable and is excellent from the point of view of OST and photography.

3. The King

The King: Eternal Monarch was one of the most anticipated K-dramas of 2020 because it marked the return of actor Lee Min Ho and was curated by famous screenwriter Kim Eun-Sook, famous above all for writing the script of Goblin, one of the most successful drama of 2017. Despite the expectations, there were those who loved it and those who were disappointed, however, there is no denying the originality and the particularity of the plot with fantasy and engaging content . In this drama there are in fact two worlds: one is what we all know, while the other, equally real, separated from ours just before the division of the two Koreas, following a different timeline. In this second world, the Korean peninsula is still united and the monarchy has never fallen. But what if these two worlds met and it was possible to travel from one world to another? Probably nothing good and here the protagonists set in motion to resolve the situation.

4. Was it love?

A 2020 K-drama less known than the others but no less noteworthy is titled Was It, Love? (original title? ) and lightly addresses the still very current issue of discrimination against single parents in Korea. While the protagonist tries to navigate between work and the growth of her teenage daughter, the past re-emerges precisely in the least suitable period and she will thus have to be able to reconcile everything.

5. Kingdom

Finally, let's not forget that in 2020 the second season of Kingdom was released, a fantasy horror that stages a sort of zombie apocalypse set not in the present day, but in the Korean Middle Ages and tries to give an explanation to the epidemic. . This series was also a success: if it is true that the stories with the zombies are trite and withdrawn, in this case, there is originality given above all by the setting.

These are the five K-dramas of 2020 that we think is a must-see. If you've seen them, let us know what you think! What other 2020 K-dramas do you think are noteworthy? Leave us a comment! And if you're interested, read our article on the most used words in drama.
